The Art of Sound in Film

  • Landown Hall and Gallery Lansdown Stroud, GL5 1BB (map)

Joe Magee and Tom Jacob are both Stroud-based filmmakers. Tom is also a composer and sound designer. They have recently collaborated, with Tom re-scoring Joe’s short film, No Sherbet (Keith Allen, Sean Gleeson), and providing a sound design for Joe’s most recent short, Jackpot.

Here they lead an exploration into the art of sound in film – specifically in post-production; sound design, score, foley and more. Tom and Joe will highlight some of their favourite sound moments in feature films. Tom cites as influences the works of Angelo Badalamenti, Johnny Greenwood and Hildur Gudnadottir. Joe cites work by David Lynch and Robert Bresson.

As part of the event there will be screenings of their own film collaborations including No Sherbet (10mins) and a festival premiere of Jackpot (3mins 30secs).
